Looks like the big race is starting to turn into a fiasco, but the Sopara Invitational is going strong and steady, folks! Get in while the getting’s good! Just two more weeks for entries and arrivals, then it’s game on! Remember, yours truly will be there to cover the festivities as they happen, let’s show those space jocks that we can thrive while their biggest event withers on the vine! On that note, people are still bitching about Shohan attacks in the sector next door. Hey, Fleet, you wanna go do something about that? C’mon guys, isn’t this why they give you those big shiny ships, with those big shiny guns on them? (Not that I’m opposed to big shiny guns, I love a good explosion as much as the next guy.)
On a completely unrelated note: it’s confirmed, tech execs at multiple firms are starting to take vacation time and are leaving the planet. They’re claiming it’s “nothing out of the ordinary”, and that they’re “just heading to the Core to see family”, but sources say it’s a sham. They’re hearing the news from the next sector over, freaking out, and bugging out. I say... LAME! Nothing to worry about here, folks. Tech sells, baby, tangle rules, info info info! Let the cowards run off to the Core, boy will their faces be red when the word gets out about those Model ZX-5 processors having a factory recall next week.
Oops, did I say that out loud? Of course I didn’t. See you next week. ;)

Sad news, race fans. It appears that the Champ has changed his mind. Captain Z, as his fans all know him, has decided to bow out of this year’s race, citing the rising paranoia over gene mods in the area would, “make it a lot less fun this time around”. He is known to have several Abascians on his crew, and rumours are starting to circulate that he’s boycotting the race due to the recent tariff issues in the region. Many of the more high-profile participants are anticipated to follow suit, as a show of solidarity. WaveFire Interstellar has already reported that they are withdrawing their sponsorship from this year’s event due to the alleged speceism of the Sphere government near the Gap. That makes this the first time the defending champion has pulled out of the race, as well as the first time a sponsor has backed out.
This just in: The advisory in Sector 4163 has been upgraded to a ... Class 5? Repeat, Sector 4163 is now under a full military travel restriction, issued by the TSN earlier today. Details are restricted, but we got this directive straight from Admiral Hall’s offices ... here on station.
In other news, though, business seems to be booming at the yards here. Major orders are coming in, and the belt miners are doubling up on shifts to meet the extensive material demands for the influx of large-scale orders. The Corporate Council here isn’t releasing the source of most of these orders, but word on the grapevine is that the bulk of them are coming in from the TSN. Third Fleet’s presence in-system and in neighboring systems is visibly increasing, but the Admiral’s offices are assuring the locals that there is no cause for alarm. Crews and ships from Sixth and Seventh are also turning up. Officially, they’re here for some old-fashioned R&R. Word from the cantines around the docks, however, suggests that they’re bound for Fourth Fleet with transfer orders.
I’m Amanda Kally and that’s your starburst for tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen, Race fans everywhere! The course is set, and all checkpoints confirmed for the Fifteenth Annual “Race to the Gap”. Entrants are expected from all over the Sphere, including defending Race champion, Zebulon Clarkson. We will, of course, be broadcasting the festivities as they occur. This year is expected to be just as exciting as last year’s Race, let’s hope for another close finish, shall we? From Unity, however, debate over the implications of the events in Sector 4163 continues to overshadow other discussions. Motions regarding tariff adjustments on Abascian gene modifications have been tabled for the moment, and rumours are beginning to circulate about an increase in Naval activity in the region. Fleet representatives have said that such motions are merely precautionary at this time, and assure the Senate that all steps are being taken to prevent any further incidents. Details are unconfirmed at this time, but word is spreading that Fourth Fleet has confirmed intelligence regarding the situation on Zhujiangjin. Trafalgar representatives have said such news will be released at the appropriate time. In related news, however, Captain Billingsley of the Bonaventure, loaned from the Alpha Centauri Star Navy, has been awarded a meritorious service citation for his ship’s role in the recent actions against the Kanhoji Crew pirates. Senator Kelley and his camp applaud the Captain’s brave exploits, and are hopeful that the removal of this pirate menace will lead to future good fortunes in the Sector, and even a resolution as to what happened with the ansible relays on Minerva. Senator Karsalia and his supporters remain skeptical that the pirates had anything to do with the Minerva situation, citing that the pirates were found and disbanded over Prospero, which is, “nearly the other end of the sector”, and not a “neighboring system”, as had been characterized by Senator Kelley. Later this week, Nea Alexandria University is set to reveal its latest polls on the public’s stance on the crisis, but initial leaks indicate a major shake up in the public’s opinion, stay tuned for our continuing coverage and how this might impact the debate on Unity...

I am pleased to have the privilege of being embedded with the Fourth Fleet. My crew and I are currently en route to the Houyi, where will be stationed so I have little time to update. However, I can finally report with some certainty about events in sector 4163. First for the many who have lost loved ones at their hands, the Kanhoji Crew pirates have been brought to an end. Elements from the Fourth Fleet disabled two pirate vessels in an attempted raid on Prospero. The Kanhoji Crew's downfall was brought about in part due to years of work by Strategic Signals Processing Division, who were able to utilize their attacks over the years to trace their movements and the Psionic Resources Bureau whose precogs were able to use that data to predict their next attack. Without their last two vessels, the captured pirates revealed the location of their base, a failed islander colony. As is frequently the case, the isolationist colony ran into problems maintaining it’s tech base and turned to piracy, first for survival, then profit. Authorities are still sorting through the the colony’s inhabitants, charges have been proffered against many, but for others they are simply trying to return them to their worlds of origin or find next of kin.
In other islander news, contact has been lost with the independent colony "We Made It!" Officially, the fleet is unconcerned, in the words of one officer "The rock farmers probably ran out of tangle for their relay again", but in private conversations, I am given to understand that long range recon probes have been dispatched to the colony, “purely as a precautionary measure”.   Meanwhile, Zhujiangjin and Minerva are still silent. Fleet command may have information regarding the present situation, however they too have been unusually quiet of late.

Three more weeks, gamers! Two more weeks to get here, or be left out in the dark! Don’t let the biggest tournament in the industry pass you by! If you’re wondering why half the games on the schedule have been left blank, well, let’s just say that they’re not all out in circulation just yet, and there’s rumours that the publishers might not know about it. ;)
In more local news, the rumour mill is buzzing with reports that execs at several of the local tech firms are taking sudden, unscheduled vacation time. Paranoid lunatics are claiming this is something to do with the Colonial Advisory in the adjoining sectors... Err... Sector for now. Probably just scare tactics to try and boost recruiting numbers in this region since our world has become such a hotspot. When are those Senate seats going to get settled, Unity? Get that resolved, then we can talk enlistment! Trust the Core to think they’re all that matter, right?
The Hot sheets are actually kinda cold this week, otherwise. Not much new on the blueprints front, some kind of illegal biomods shipment was seized out near the Gap, though, so watch for prices to fluctuate bigtime in that sector. Might even hit us out here, but I doubt it. Most of the biotech firms here are still working on exploiting Bow’s biodiversity. Rumour has it, one of them might be making some progress. I’ll keep my ear to the ground to let you all know which one it is!
